The 9th Kyu (Yellow Belt) represents the next stage in a young judoka's development, building on the skills learned at the White/Yellow Belt level. At this stage, students demonstrate greater confidence, improved coordination, and a stronger understanding of both standing techniques and groundwork.
Training focuses on refining the fundamentals while introducing more advanced movement patterns and techniques. Students learn to apply proper balance, timing, and body control, laying the foundation for future technical development.
To earn the 9th Kyu (Yellow Belt), students demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
Fundamentals of Standing Judo: Continued improvement of all basic judo elements.
Ashi Waza (Foot Techniques): O-soto Gari.
Koshi Waza (Hip Techniques): O-goshi.
Fundamentals of Judo Groundwork (Ne Waza): Basic defensive movement, including the turtle position, shrimp movement, and leg movement.
Katame Waza (Holding Techniques): Yoko Shiho Gatame, Tate Shiho Gatame, and Kami Shiho Gatame.
These techniques help students develop better control, positioning, and confidence in both throwing and groundwork situations. Mastering these skills prepares young judoka for more advanced techniques introduced at higher belt levels.
At Dynamo Sports Center, students progress through a structured curriculum with clearly defined objectives for every rank. Promotion to the 9th Kyu (Yellow Belt) is based on technical proficiency, safety, discipline, attendance, effort, and understanding of judo principles.
The 9th Kyu (Yellow Belt) is an important milestone that reflects a student's growing technical ability, increased confidence on the mat, and readiness to continue advancing through the children's judo belt system.
